Africa Environmental Update

Good morning, Africa.

A remarkable environmental awareness journey continues today in Kafue, where the Cape to Cairo Walk initiative is passing through.

The team travelling under the Cape2Cairo campaign arrived in Kafue after leaving Nanga Farms yesterday. Their route took them through Nega Nega, following a dirt road alongside the railway line before crossing the Kafue River via the railway bridge into the town.

However, their journey was briefly delayed when heavy rain poured down for nearly 45 minutes shortly after they crossed the bridge, forcing the team to take shelter before continuing their walk into town.

Once in Kafue, something inspiring happened. While passing by Kalis Pub and Grill, locals and revellers heard about the environmental mission and quickly responded with support.

Community members have now organised a local environmental initiative under the banner “Green, Clean and Healthy Kafue.” The event will include a 10-kilometre clean-up walk, aimed at promoting environmental responsibility and reducing litter.

The walking team has decided to join the community for the clean-up march before continuing their journey toward Lusaka. Due to the delay caused by the rain and the community event, they say it is unlikely they will reach Lusaka today.

The initiative continues to spread a strong message across the continent:

A Clean Africa is a Healthy Africa.

The campaign also carries the message of unity and environmental responsibility through hashtags such as #WeAreOne, #WalkAcrossAfrica, #Cape2Cairo, and #LitterFreeHighways, while supporting conservation awareness through Mkwa Conservation.

This story highlights how communities across Africa are joining hands to promote a cleaner and healthier continent.
